Week 3 Challenge: Following Jesus Into The Unknown

What did Jesus say?

Follow me

  • Matthew 4:19:  And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

In Other Text:

  • Matthew 16:24:  Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
  • 1 Chronicles 28:9:  And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

Challenge:

While driving to an unknown destination, we cannot follow the directions on our GPS and also choose to follow our “gut instincts”. Doing this we will end up taking a wrong turn!  We have to choose to look at the map, listen to the instructions, and follow the directions.

It’s the same with following Jesus – we must look at His example, listen closely, and follow Holy Spirit each day. Jesus’ first disciples had to ditch their regular routines – the things they had always done, how they had always lived.  They had to listen and make a choice to follow Him. Following is a daily choice!
