What did Jesus say?
Ask, Seek, Knock
- Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
In Other Text:
- 1 John 5:14-15: And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
- Psalm 37:3-5: Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
Challenge:
Ask, Seek, and Knock: Though similar, it implies different actions…
Ask, we have the freedom to speak to God sharing our desires as we seek to follow Jesus.
Seeking implies drawing near… When pursuing Jesus in a personal relationship, we are motivated to know more about him and deepen our connection.
Knocking on a door with patience can only happen when we know that there IS someone on the other side of that door who is going to answer.
Combined… we see persistence gains an outcome. The challenge is pursuing Jesus confidently, patiently and consistently, believing His promises to answer, be found, and reveal himself to us.
