Week 6 Challenge: Shine On

What did Jesus say?

Let Your Light Shine

  • Matthew 5:14-16:  You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

In Other Text:

  • Titus 2:7-8: Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
  • Isaiah 60:1-3:  Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

Challenge:

Let your let shine before others! To those who prefer to blend in with the crowd, this might be a little intimidating…

Not every Jesus follower prefers a stage or spotlight!  But don’t worry, Jesus is not talking about drawing attention to yourself. Loving and serving those around us, “letting our light shine”, allows others to personally experience the life-changing light of Christ.

While they are seeing our good works, scripture promises these Spirit led actions will bring glory to our heavenly Father! This should be the goal of all Christ followers, “let your light shine”. This also helps us keep our words and actions in check, the Holy Spirit at work within us becomes evident to those placed in our sphere of influence by Jesus Himself. So… “let your light shine”!
